At this point in 2024, the decennial of the Apple Watch is on the horizon. There is some uncertainty about whether Apple will observe a ten-year anniversary for the Apple Watch in 2024 or 2025. Nonetheless, leaks and rumors indicate that the company might rejuvenate the design when it unveils the new Apple Watch, following a few unchanging years.
What would an Apple Watch X look like?
The last design change to the standard Apple Watch was seen in the Series 7, which introduced a larger edge-to-edge display. Prior to that, the most apparent upgrade was from Series 3 to Series 4, and it’s been five years since that smartwatch was introduced. Since this year’s Apple Watch will represent the 10th series of Apple Watch, a substantial change similar to the iPhone X launch in 2017 is expected.
What could we see with the Apple Watch X?
The iPhone X made significant changes to the iPhone’s line with the introduction of slimmer bezels, Face ID, and the notch. It was a major upgrade to the iPhone product line and coincided with the 10th anniversary of the iPhone. Although the official 10-year anniversary of the Apple Watch won’t arrive until 2025, this fall will mark 10 years since the product’s announcement, as it was revealed in 2014. Given that the next Apple Watch generation would presumably be Series 10 (or X), it makes sense for Apple to provide the iPhone X treatment to its smartwatch in the form of Apple Watch X.
Apple Watch X: Pricing and availability
Gurman agrees that due to the discrepancies between when the first Apple Watch was released and announced, we could see Apple Watch X in either 2024 or 2025. It’s possible, but unlikely, that Apple would announce the Apple Watch X in 2024 but not release it until 2025. What’s more likely is that we’ll see an Apple Watch X announced in either September 2024 or September 2025, and released soon after the unveiling. Apple has historically released new Apple Watches at its annual fall events, along with new iPhones, and we expect it to follow this pattern with the Apple Watch X. We don’t have any information about pricing right now, but check back as the launch of Apple Watch X gets closer.
